Williams Hall

Background

Our Scout hall / den is called 'Williams hall' after one of the early group leaders, Skip Williams. It was opened in 1977 by the mayor, Micheal Fowler. It is one of the largest halls in the Wellington Region and is a truly amazing facility. It has four patrol rooms (break-out rooms), one leaders room, one venturer room (the Zac Pearson Memorial Venturer room, a kitchen and many storage rooms, including a large QM (quarter-masters) store.

Prior to the current hall, we were in the Marae on the Victoria University grounds (then owned by scouts) and before that at the RSA clubrooms (then owned by the scoutmaster). At the time of the second hall opening, 1st Karori Scout were meeting at the RSA hall, the old army barracks, St Marys church and St Ninians church.

We are found at 158 Campbell St (the corner of Campbell and Croydon Streets).

Bookings

Williams Hall is available to book for parties, community events and Scout/Guide activities. Please note that this is an alcohol and smoke free facility.

Booking conditions

• No smoking

• No alcohol

• No outdoor activities after 10pm

• No outdoor camping

• Return the hall to the same condition as you found it.

• Remove all rubbish and recycling (strictly no food waste to be left at the hall)

Booking fees

• Half-day booking - $100.00

• Full day booking (including overnight) - $180.00

Scout and Guide groups receive a 25% discount on all bookings.

• 44 chairs

• 5 trestle tables

• 4 picnic tables

• Balls, mats and various large ropes

• Basic kitchen equipment

• Two ovens

• Fridge & freezer

• Projector, screen and speakers ($25 additional fee)

Managing your booking

Before you arrive...

• Pay your invoice (sent to your email from Xero)

• Confirm your payment by emailing the Group Leader on 1stkaroriscoutgroup@gmail.com or 021 0865 3841

• Receive the lockbox code

When you arrive...

• Come to the front door (main entrance facing the grassy field)

• Get the key from the lockbox (right of the door)

• Your key unlocks the side doors, equipment room and front bollard (right side only, as you face the hall). 

• Turn to your immediate right and open the switchboard box. Flip the master switch (bottom left). Lights, heaters and so forth are controlled there. 

• The wi-fi code is 1stKarori_1927

• Light a fire (wood is in the shed outside the hall)

Before you leave...

• Wash your dishes (hot water from the Zip boiler)

• Wipe down kitchen surfaces

• Ensure bathrooms are tidy

• Put all equipment away where you found it.

• Douse any embers with cold water. 

• DO NOT remove ashes from the fireplace

• Remove your rubbish and recycling

• Turn off the master switch at the switch board.

• Replace and lock bollard and lock all doors 

• Replace the key in the lockbox

Health and Safety & Emergencies

• First aid kit is in the kitchen

• Fire-blankets, extinguishers and smoke alarms are prominently installed in the hall

• The emergency meeting area is marked on the far side of the grassy area in front of the hall
